St German's News - 30 Dec 2018 'Christmas 1 - The Holy Family'

Thank You - To Fr John Lewis for preaching and presiding today.          

Epiphany - We will celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord next week with a special service in St German’s led by Geraint, at 6pm.                 

Nightshelter - Has now begun and goes on to the end of March. Please keep our guests and volunteers in your prayers.  The 8:00 am mass is provided for our shelter guests and helpers.                                    

Week of prayer for Christian Unity 18-25 Jan. More details next week.       

Fr John Griffiths RIP - The former parish priest of St German’s has died. His funeral will be at the Shrine of Julian of Norwich in Norwich on Wednesday 10 Jan 2019. May he rest forever in the peace of Christ.              

PCC Meeting - the Parish Council next meets on Mon 4 Feb 2019 at 6.45 pm.

Crib Service - First mass of Christmas and crib service with separate readings and hymns at 6pm tomorrow. All are welcome.                     

Christmas Day - For those who can’t make the evening service we also have a sung mass for Christmas Day at 9.30am with carols.                  

Nightshelter - Has now begun and goes on to the end of March.  Thank you to all who have agreed to help. Please keep our guests and volunteers in your prayers.  The 8:00 am mass at St German’s is provided for our shelter guests and helpers.      

Octave of Christmas - See mass times right. .

Little wooden Nativity - Handmade by our own churchwarden. Only £3 with proceeds going to the parish.  Perhaps an ideal memento for distant family.      

Las Posada - see the images at the back of the church where the posada visited.

O Antiphon Prayer - Please join us each evening this week at 7pm and help us make it a time of spiritual renewal as we await the joy of Christ’s birth. 

Tea Rota - We need help with the tea rota after mass on Sunday.  Please see Richard about this.  Currently it is falling to a small number of people.      

Messy Christmas - We urgently need help with the craft activities for the Christmas Eve family service at 4pm. Please contact Fr Phelim for details.

Nightshelter -  Begins this coming Saturday.  Thank you to all who have agreed to help. Please keep our guests and volunteers in your prayers.  We will also begin our 8:00 am Homeless mass for the season.

Healing Service - this Wednesday 19 Dec at 6pm in St Saviour’s.We will follow the rite of healing as used at the shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.   

Fr John Griffiths RIP - The former parish priest of St German’s who was here between the time of Fr Martin Williams and Fr Roy Doxey has died.  His funeral will be at the Shrine of Julian of Norwich in Norwich on Wednesday 10 Jan 2019. May he rest forever in the peace of Christ.

Advent Benediction - Benediction with Music for Advent this evening at 6pm in St Saviour’s.  All are welcome.                         

Nightshelter -  We will have an information and training evening for this year’s Nightshelter tomorrow night,  Mon 10 Dec at 7pm.  This is open to new volunteers as well as to those who helped last year.  Its purpose is to update everyone on procedures for this year.

- Wednesday 12th December -  Tredegarville Primary School at 9:30am and
​Ysgol Glan Morfa at 6pm;
- Thursday  13th 
December -   Cardiff & Vale Youth Choir at 7:15pm;                 
- Monday 17th
December -  Local Cluster Schools at 6pm (Willows);                 
​- Tuesday 18th
December -  Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf at 7pm;                 

Messy Church - the next Messy Church will be in St German’s at 4pm on Christmas Eve. We will need lots of help.  Please let Fr Phelim know.

Las Posadas: Today Mary & Joseph begin the journey around parish. Please sign up if you are able to offer the Holy Family hospitality for the night. You can follow their adventures on @Cardiff_GandS                             

Healing Service - this week’s healing service in St Saviour’s has been postponed to next Wednesday 19 Dec at 6pm.                              

Sanctuary Lamps: Anyone wishing to sponsor The Blessed Sacrament Lamp or the Lamp to Our Lady should sign the list at the back of church and give your £4 donation to John. New dates have now been added.             

Christmas Flowers: Last call for Floral Displays for Christmas. To sponsor flowers please give your order form with your dedication to Gwyneth with the payment.     

Eco Church - Thanks to Bill & David for meeting Moorland’s Eco Group this week.  Some great ideas about how to improve our lives in school and church.          

Carols & a Cuppa: Please do join us on Sat 22 December at 12 noon. Last year this was a great community success. Let’s make this year even better. Spread the word!

Advent - Service of Advent Lessons and Carols by Candlelight this evening at 6pm in St German’s.  All are welcome.                        
Rome Pilgrimage 3-7 December - Many of us will be away this week.  Consequently, there is no Monday evening mass on 3rd December but there will be a mass at 11:30am which is open to all.                     
Advent Hymns - Hymns for the season of advent will be taken from the New English Hymnal (Green Book).                              
Advent and Christmas - Copies of the services for Advent and Christmas are available at the back of the Church. A highlight of this is a return for the series of prayer reflections on the 8 days before Christmas following the ancient ‘O Antiphons’ of the Church.

Advent begins Service of Advent Lessons and Carols by Candlelight at 6pm this evening in St German’s.  All are welcome.                        
​Advent and Christmas - Copies of the services for Advent and Christmas are available at the back of the Church.                             
Flowers Last day for Christmas flower arrangements Sunday 9th December. Please see Gwyneth to complete an order form. Money with orders please.             
Las Posadas - Mary and Joseph begin their journey around the parish next Sunday 9th December. This is a lovely tradition where households in the parish offer the Holy Family symbolic hospitality. Please add your name to the list at the back.
Benediction with Music for Advent - next Sun 9 December at 6pm in St Saviour’s.
Healing Service for Advent - Wednesday 12 December in St Saviour’s at 7pm.      
Nightshelter -  We will have an information and training evening for those interested in helping with our Nightshelter on Monday 10 December at 7pm.      
Christmas Cards - Envelopes for the Christmas Greeting Display are now available and will go live from next Sunday onwards.  These may also be gift aided if you are able. Donations should be given to John.                          
Charitable Giving - Those wishing to make a Christmas donation to charity can donate to the Nightshelter to support its on going running costs.
