St Saviour's News for Christmas Day - 25 Dec 2017

Christmas Services: Sun 24 Dec 8:00 Mass for the Homeless at St German’s (all are welcome); 4:00 pm Crib Service and 1st Mass of Christmas in St Saviour’s; 6:00pm Crib Service and 1st Mass of Christmas in St German’s; 11:00pm Midnight Mass in St German’s; Mon 25 Dec 9:30 am Sung Mass for Christmas in St Saviour’s.                   Cardiff Churches Nightshelter Begins this week.  We are very grateful for all the support and gifts offered to be given to those we will host this year.  A special thank you to all of you who have volunteered to help out at one of the sessions and to those who have generously given clothes and other items.   We are pausing our collection for now as your generosity means we now have more than enough for the next few months.  As ever, please keep the work of the Churches Nightshelter in your prayers.                      

Thank You - to all who generously contributed towards the  cost of our Christmas flowers. 

Weekday Services - as normal in St Saviour’s.  No Wednesday mass this week in St German’s.                                             

Epiphany - The feast of the Epiphany will be celebrated in St Saviour’s on Saturday 6 Jan at 11am and Sunday 7 Jan we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of the Lord at 9:30 am.      

Cardiff Foodbank - urgent items: tinned tomatoes, fruit juice (concentrate), rice pudding tins, sponge pudding, tinned fruit. Not needed: beans, cereals, tea, pasta.        

Rotas - We are looking to update our church tea & cleaning rotas and are hoping to recruit a few more helpers for both groups. Please see Liz.                       

Christian Unity - the week of prayer for Christian Unity is 18-25 January 2018.  There will be a Churches Together joint service in St Alban’s Church on Sunday 21 January 2018 at 6pm.  All are welcome.                               

​Walsingham 2018 - Our annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham will be on the last week of July.  For details see Liz and Bill.

Praying the O Antiphons - each night this week we will meet for reflections on the prophetic titles of Christ as found in Isaiah.  It is quiet prayer, part Bible study and a stilling of heart, mind and soul in preparation for Christmas.  In many ways it reflects the prayer and preparation for Easter in Holy Week.  Please join us.      

Bonus Ball  - Last day for the Bonus Ball tomorrow until the New Year. Monies taken tomorrow will be for the draw on Sat 6th January.                

Cardiff Churches Nightshelter Begins this week.  Please keep all those involved in your prayers.  If you would like to help please contact Fr Phelim.               

Christmas Services - Please note that the mass for the 4th Sunday of Advent will be a vigil mass this Saturday at 5:30pm.  Mass on Christmas Day will be at 9:30am.      

Flowers at Christmas - Final orders for Christmas flowers today. (Sunday) Money with order forms to Gwyneth please.  If anyone would like make a donation to the general flower fund for Christmas see Gwyneth.

Carols and a Cuppa A reminder that next Saturday 23rd December we’re participating in the Great Christmas Get Together at 12 noon with our ‘Carols & a Cuppa’ event. Please do join us to celebrate everything that makes us a community in Splott! The theme is #mincepiemoments so if anyone is able to make or donate some mince pies please speak to Liz this morning

Parish Notes:

Christmas Services - Please note that masses for the 4th Sunday of Advent will be a vigil mass this Saturday at 5:30pm plus the 8am Homeless Mass on Sunday 24th. 

Christmas Day - Because of the Crib Service mass and Midnight Mass next Sunday there won’t be a day mass on the 25th in St German’s.  St Saviour’s Christmas day mass will be at 9:30am                                

Warm Clothes Appeal - We hope to have a small collection of clean, dry and warm clothing available of our Nightshelter guests this winter.  Please see the wardens for details.                                             

Church Cleaning - Help us prepare the church for Christmas after this week’s Wednesday Mass.                                    

Ysgol Glantaf - Will be visiting the Church this Tuesday and we need as much help as possible around 9:30pm to help put away chairs etc. Please help us if you can.

Bishop June - We bid a warm welcome to Bishop June as she visits St German’s today  for the first time.  We express too a sincere thank you for presiding and preaching for us.

Warm Clothes Appeal - We hope to have a small collection of clean, dry and warm clothing available of our Nightshelter guests this winter.  Please see the wardens for details.                                             

Advent Benediction -  St Saviour’s today at 6pm next Sunday 10 December.        

Cardiff Churches Nightshelter There will be a training session tomorrow
Monday 11 December in St German’s Hall at 7pm for all our helpers.  The initial Rota for those helping during December/January will be available next week. Please keep our Nightshelter guests and those who help out in your prayers this Advent and Christmas.

Reconciliation Service - St Saviour’s this Wednesday at 7pm on 13 December.  A chance to reconnect with the mercy and forgiveness of God in time for Christmas. This is very similar to penitential and healing services with a focus on renewing our desire to live in right relationship with God as a way of preparing spiritually for Christmas.           

Tredgegarville School Nativity Concert - This Wed at 9:30 am. NB. No mass.      

Willows High School Christmas Concert - this Thursday evening.              

Livery Company Carols - Friday evening with a buffet afterwards.

Advent Benediction -  St Saviour’s today at 6pm Sunday 10 December.    

Cardiff Churches Nightshelter There will be a training session tomorrow

Reconciliation Service - St Saviour’s at 7pm on 13 December.  A chance to reconnect with the mercy and forgiveness of God in time for Christmas. This is very similar to penitential and healing services with a focus renewing our desire to live in right relationship with God as a way of preparing for Christmas.

Lights of Love - Evening of traditional carols and readings run by the Sands charity in St Saviour’s on Friday 8 December at 7:30pm.

Cardiff Churches Nightshelter There will be a training session on Mon 11 Dec in St German’s Hall at 7pm for all our helpers.                           

Advent Carols by Candlelight - This evening at 6pm in St German’s.  Please join us for a service of lessons and carols to celebrate the beginning of advent.          

Bishop June Osborne - We are delighted to welcome Bishop June to St German’s to preside and preach next Sunday of Advent (10 December).  It will be a momentous occasion and it would be great to see as many as possible to greet her.
