Thank You from Fr Phelim  - Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate last Sunday a wonderful four years here in St Saviour’s.  We were delighted to see so many and say a personal farewell.  We are also deeply appreciative of the kind cards and gifts that were offered and we will cherish them and the memories of our time in St Saviour’s dearly.  Many thanks to all those who have sustained and supported the ministry of the church in this part of Cardiff which includes almost everyone in our parish community.  A community of active disciples committed to promoting the deepening of God’s activity in our local community.  Growing into a new ministry area with new colleagues and friends from South Cardiff is a major turning point in the history of this parish and I am confident you will navigate this journey with faith, forbearance, humour and great generosity of spirit - the same virtues you extended to us and our family these last four years.  God bless you always.  Fr Phelim.
Interregnum - Fr Phelim will be on holiday for the next two weeks and then moves to Birmingham towards the end of August.  In the meantime please contact Fr Chris  or the Church Wardens for any parish or ministry related queries.  From September the interregnum will begin and Fr Dyfrig Lloyd, the area dean, will coordinate ministry then.
August events -Sponsored walk from Llanwanno to the Shrine of Our Lady of Penrhys on Saturday 14 August (for more details see Liz) and Ecumenical Prayer and Celebration for the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Sunday 15 August at St Mary’s Butetown. (More information to follow).
Covid Risks Update - With the Welsh government now allowing more people to meet indoors and outdoors we will be updating our own risk assessment accordingly.  The CinW has also now permitted churches to offer tea and coffee after our services.  We hope to begin this in August.  Please keep to social distancing whilst in church and wear a face covering.

Farewell - Many thanks to all who turned up and supported the farewell to Fr Phelim and his family.  It was a lovely occasion and we wish them all every blessing and success in the midlands.  Fr Phelim adds: “It was lovely and humbling to see so many friends we’ve made over the past four years at last Sunday’s gathering.  We were blessed with wonderful weather in the memorial garden and I am deeply grateful for all that you’ve done to support us as a family.  It has been a wonderful, and ministerially fulfilling, four years and we pray that the next priest (God willing) will have as much support in friendship and ministry outreach as I’ve enjoyed.  Thank you also for the many cards, bottles and very generous gift. We will miss you all dearly”.
Thank you - to Fr Keith Kimber who has kindly agreed to be with us for as long as we need during the coming weeks and months.
Interregnum - We are hopeful the bishop will appoint a successor to Fr Phelim who will serve throughout the new Ministry Area.  Canon Stewart and the MA lay chair and Peter Lovitt have submitted a proposal as to why continuity of priestly ministry in St German’s and Adamsdown is crucial for our worshipping life and outreach to those in need locally.  In the meantime from September the church wardens and the Area Dean, Fr Dyfrig Lloyd, will the first point of contact for any church related or PCC related matters.
Hymns:  See hymn board each week for hymn numbers.
Covid Risks Update - With the Welsh government now allowing more people to meet indoors and outdoors we will be updating our own risk assessment accordingly.  The CinW has also no permitted churches to offer tea and coffee after our services.  Please continue to adhere to social distancing whilst in church and wear a face covering. We will also resume singing due to social distancing, the size our building and wearing face coverings.
Gardening Club - meets on the first Saturday of the month at 11:00am.  This is open to all.  Next meets on Saturday 7 August.

Ministry Area - The Parochial Church Council agreed at our last meeting to give consent to the signing of the decree which allows St Saviour’s to join with the other parishes of South Cardiff in forming a new ministry area.  We also agreed that our ministry area transition team representatives will be: Liz Norman, Wendy Gibbins, David Gibbins and Janet Fotheringham.      Also, in preparation for joining the new MA a decree has been passed by Bishop June and the diocese formally separating St German’s and St Saviour’s who will now be known by their previous parish titles.  The MA transition team next meets on Monday 26 July and will look at the next steps in forming our new MA.
Weekday Masses - Weekday masses resume this week with Fr Chris.
Farewells - Today is Fr Phelim’s last Sunday with us and  we plan on meeting in the church garden between 2-4pm to say our farewells (weather permitting).  Please let us know if you hope to attend. Fr Phelim moves to Birmingham in the last week of August and will be on holiday from next weekend until that time.  In the meantime Fr Chris will be available and from September he, the church wardens and the Area Dean, Fr Dyfrig Lloyd, will be the main points of contact for any church or PCC related matters.
Sanctuary Lamps available - If you would like to sponsor a lamp, please write your dedication on the list at the back of church and place your £4 donation in the candle box.
Singing -  The CinW has again updated its guidance and suggests that individual churches do all that they can to adhere to government guidelines whilst ensuring we assess and respond to the risks accordingly.  The size of our church, limited numbers, social distancing and wearing face coverings mean we are now in a position to resume singing.

Tea/Coffee Rotas - we can meet in groups of six in the hall after mass.  If you could help us serve refreshments please see Angela about joining the rota.
Singing -  The CinW guidelines only permit singing in our churches if the local 7 day Covid case rate is below 50 per 100,000. Currently, it is 158 and so congregational singing is suspended this week.  This will change week by week.

Welcome back - To Fr Geraint John who joins us today from his Parish of Llangynwyd with Maesteg.  We are delighted to have been a part of his journey in faith and wish him every blessing in his priestly ministry.

Farewell to Fr Phelim - we will have a special celebration after mass on 18 July to say our farewells to Fr Phelim and his family.  His last Sunday will be on 25 July and last service on 30 July before he takes the first weeks of August for a holiday and some retreat time.  His licensing in Birmingham will probably be in the first week of September.
Refreshments - Refreshments and fellowship in the hall after mass is unfortunately not currently permitted by the Church in Wales.  Deanery Chapter was reminded this week that we need to abide by CinW Covid guidelines as well as those from Welsh Government.
Ministry Area - in preparation for joining the new MA of Cathays and Roath a decree has been passed by Bishop June and the diocese formally separating St German’s and St Saviour’s who will now be known by their previous parish titles.
Summer Fayre - Despite our best efforts we will have to cancel this year’s Summer Fayre as we have struggled to recruit enough volunteers as well as the ongoing changing circumstances around Covid and social distancing and how these may be relaxed.
Foodbank Collections - Donations at the back of the church. Help us support the hungry.
Covid Risks Update - Please continue to adhere to social distancing and so go straight to your chair and at the end of the service leave in orderly and socially distanced manner.
Singing -  The CinW guidelines only permit singing in our churches if the local 7 day Covid case rate is below 50 per 100,000. Currently, it is 158 and so congregational singing is suspended this week.  This will change week by week.  Our 6 voice choir can still lead us in singing and today’s hymns are: Come down O love divine, Lead us heavenly Father, lead us; Be thou my vision, Onward Christian pilgrims.
